Summer is here in full blast. For me, this means moving around and running around Seattle more than I normally do. All this running around had me in search of a way to help combat the additional aches and pains of life. Turmeric just kept popping up on my social media platforms and I decided to look into just what exactly it was.
Turmeric to my surprise is known for its anti-inflammatory properties which can help reduce sore muscles and tired joints. But not only does turmeric help with sore muscles, it also has a lot of benefits for your skin! Talk about a win-win.
The first time I tried using turmeric I must admit I stayed within my comfort zone, food. I found a recipe for couscous from Bon Appetite that I paired with a roasted chicken. I highly recommend trying out the recipe for a quick and simple way to get turmeric in your diet.
Throughout the week I’ve been slowly experimenting with different ways to make golden milk, a latte version of using turmeric.
Below are my two different recipes for both hot and iced golden milk.
Iced Golden Milk:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1 cup almond milk
- 2 Tbsp. Agave
- 2 Tsp. Turmeric
- 1/4th Tsp. Cinnamon
- Pinch of cardamom
Feel free to use vanilla almond or coconut milk for extra flavor.
Instructions:
- Combine all ingredients into a blender.
- Put a few ice cubes into a glass.
- Pour a little bit of either coconut or almond milk into the glass.
- Pour the golden milk mixture over the glass filled with milk and ice.
My warm version of the drink is just a little different:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1 cup almond milk
- 2 Tbsp. Agave
- 2 Tsp. Turmeric
- 1/4th Tsp. Cinnamon
- Pinch of cardamom
- 2 Tsp. coconut butter
Instructions:
- Combine all ingredients into a small pot over the stove.
- Heat on low for a few minutes until warm.
- Once warm whisk on high for 1 minute.
- Pour into your favorite mug, sprinkle a little cinnamon on top, and enjoy.
Hope you enjoyed hearing about my small attempt into the culinary blogger realm.
